Baker Mayfield took a unique road to the Heisman Trophy, a long and winding climb from walk-on to one of the most accomplished players to ever play college football. The brash, flag-planting Oklahoma quarterback became the sixth Sooner to the win Heisman on Saturday night in one of the most lopsided votes in the 83-year history of the award. Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson, last year's Heisman winner, was third, the best finish by a returning winner since Tim Tebow of Florida in 2008.

Missouri coach Barry Odom has been given a two-year contract extension through the 2022-23 season. Odom was originally given a five-year contract when he was hired in 2015, and he's 11-13 in two seasons at Missouri. Missouri's success could be traced to an offense that averaged 51.3 points per game during its winning streak.
12/10/2017 02:18 AM Army: sexual assault allegations against QB 'unfounded' (Yahoo Sports) The U.S. Military Academy says sexual assault allegations against Army quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw were proved to be unfounded and the case is closed. The academy released a statement Saturday, a day after the Daily Beast published a story in which former cadet Madeline Lewis said Bradshaw raped her in 2014. Bradshaw, a senior captain, played and scored the go-ahead touchdown later Saturday in Army's 14-13 victory over Navy.

The surprise move was announced Saturday by Texas President Greg Fenves, and Del Conte will start his new job Monday. At TCU, Del Conte led the Horned Frogs into the Big 12 and heled mold a program that turned them into a football power.

Oregon assistant Mario Cristobal was officially promoted to head coach a year to the day after Willie Taggart was introduced. Taggart bolted Tuesday for the top job at Florida State, and Cristobal - the co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach - was named interim coach for the Las Vegas Bowl. The 47-year-old Cristobal becomes Oregon's 34th head coach.

The Gators announced Friday that the freshman, one of the state's top recruits last February, will not be medically cleared to return. Florida did not provide details about Robinson's diagnosis.

The arrival of a December signing period this year makes it imperative that new Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt work to salvage his new program's recruiting class the next couple of weeks while also continuing his duties as a defensive coordinator on Alabama coach Nick Saban's staff. Pruitt says he owes it to Alabama's players that he coach them throughout the postseason.

New Nebraska coach Scott Frost is bringing his entire on-field cadre of assistants with him from Central Florida. The Huskers announced Friday that two more UCF assistants would join Frost, including offensive coordinator Troy Walters - believed at one point to be a candidate to take over the Knights after the Peach Bowl. Walters was a finalist for the 2017 Broyles Award as the nation's top assistant coach.
