More than two years after first being charged with five top-level violations, North Carolina finally appeared Wednesday before an NCAA infractions committee panel amid its long-running academic scandal. School representatives - including chancellor Carol Folt, athletic director Bubba Cunningham and men's basketball coach Roy Williams - spent nearly all day in a closed-door hearing to start a two-day session in Nashville, Tennessee, before wrapping up in the evening. In an email to The Associated Press, NCAA spokeswoman Stacey Osburn said the hearing would resume Thursday morning but declined additional comment.

The first woman to sue Baylor University over allegations the nation's largest Baptist school ignored or mishandled rape allegations has settled her case, her attorney said Tuesday. Baylor fired football coach Art Briles, demoted university President Ken Starr and reprimanded athletic director Ian McCaw in May 2016. Starr and McCaw later left the school.

Kansas plans to honor former coach Mark Mangino, who was forced out amid allegations that he abused his players, and the rest of the 2007 team that won the Orange Bowl, during its season opener. The school said Tuesday that the team will be inducted into its Hall of Fame, along with former players Aqib Talib and Anthony Collins, during the opener Sept. 2 against Southeast Missouri State. Mangino led the long-suffering Jayhawks to a 12-1 record in 2007, a season capped by a victory over Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl.

Tigers coach Gus Malzahn said Tuesday that Franklin indicated he is looking ''for the chance to play more and get closer to home.'' Franklin, who is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has already graduated and could play immediately as a graduate transfer. Franklin started his career at Florida State, redshirting in 2013 and seeing limited action the following season.

Williams told Chancellor Carol Christ on Tuesday that he will not seek a new contract to remain in his current position. Williams took over as interim athletic director from Sandy Barbour in July 2014 and then was given a three-year contract the following May.
