02/17/2018 12:04 AM Arkansas State sues Miami following canceled game (Yahoo Sports) Arkansas State has sued Miami and is seeking $650,000 in damages for failing to reschedule the football game in Jonesboro that was canceled in September because of concerns about Hurricane Irma. Miami was scheduled to play at Arkansas State on Sept. 9 as part of a two-game contract that saw the Red Wolves travel to face the Hurricanes in 2014.

Attendance at the FBS level was down overall last season by 1,409 fans per game, according to NCAA stats . While media rights deals with television networks bring hundreds of millions of dollars into major college football programs, the bulk of which goes to schools in the Power Five, game-day revenue is still important.

Mississippi filed its appeal Thursday of the NCAA committee on infractions' decision to ban the football program from the postseason in 2018, limit unofficial recruiting visits and cite the school for lack institutional control in a case involving 21 violations. The NCAA committee handed down its decision in December after a lengthy investigation. Ole Miss had already self-imposed a bowl ban for 2017, let go of two assistants and disassociated with nine boosters before the NCAA added its penalties.

(AP) -- New Mexico coach Bob Davie will begin serving a 30-day school suspension Saturday, following multiple investigations into treatment of players and interfering with possible criminal or misconduct cases involving members of the team.

Notre Dame's president ripped the NCAA's decision to deny the school's appeal to restore 21 vacated football victories from an academic misconduct violation, saying the association ''perverted'' the notion that universities determine how they police academics. The NCAA denied Notre Dame's appeal Tuesday, wiping off the books all 12 wins from the Fighting Irish's 2012 national championship game run under coach Brian Kelly. John Jenkins says the penalty was unprecedented considering who was involved in the misconduct, and the school was being punished for rigorously enforcing its honor code.

The NCAA is considering allowing athletes who are doing well in the classroom to transfer with immediate eligibility and permitting incoming freshmen to back out of a national letter of intent if there is a head coaching change. The NCAA's Division I transfer working group concluded two days of meetings on Tuesday in Indianapolis. Justin Sell, the group chairman and athletic director at South Dakota State, said the group examined data on how transferring impacts academics as it develops concepts for rule reforms that could be presented to coaches, administrators and student-athletes for feedback.
02/14/2018 07:33 PM Robert Gillespie out as Tennessee's running backs coach (Yahoo Sports) Robert Gillespie is no longer part of Tennessee's coaching staff after serving as running backs coach for the last five seasons. Athletic director Phillip Fulmer confirmed Gillespie's exit Wednesday while speaking to the Big Orange Tip Off Club and indicated the decision was made by new head coach Jeremy Pruitt. Volquest first reported Gillespie's departure.
